Shamrockin’ Your St. Patrick’s Day

St Patrick’s Day is a holiday celebrated worldwide on March 17th, in honour of Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. The day is marked with parades, feasts, and the colour green. While the holiday is most commonly associated with Ireland, it is also celebrated in many other parts of the world, including Malta.
The origin of St Patrick’s Day dates back to the 17th century when the day was made an official feast day in the Catholic Church. St Patrick is said to have used the shamrock to explain the concept of the Holy Trinity to the Irish people, and this is why the shamrock is a symbol of the holiday.
In Malta, St Patrick’s Day is not an official feast or public holiday, however it is celebrated in a unique way. While there are no large parades or public celebrations, many bars and restaurants in Malta offer St Patrick’s Day specials and events. The Irish community in Malta also hosts events and parties for this holiday.
One of the most popular St Patrick’s Day events in Malta is in St Julian’s close to a number of restaurants, nightclubs and bars area, thousands of people join in from early hours in the afternoon until late for a good time and obviously enjoy some pints of Irish beer- Guinness!
